Rent the Ice at Dixie — Rental FAQ
Bring your team, your friends, or your family and try one of Canada’s great winter sports, no experience necessary! A Dixie rental is a guided experience, not just ice time: a certified instructor teaches your group the basics, then leads you through a real game. Here’s everything you’ll want to know.
New to curling — what actually happens in a session?
Your instructor starts with gripper fittings and a quick safety briefing. In the first hour you’ll learn the essentials (how to deliver a rock, how to sweep, and the basic rules). In the second hour your instructor splits you into teams and runs a friendly game, so you leave having actually played. Most groups book two hours; however, additional time may be added if available.
Do we need any experience? Why is an instructor included?
No experience required ... that’s the point! An on-ice instructor is included with every rental for two reasons: safety (the ice is slippery and curling is a new movement for most people) and enjoyment (you’ll be curling properly in minutes instead of guessing). Experienced curlers in your group are welcome to participate.
How many people can we bring? How many playing areas (sheets) do we need?
Up to 8 curlers play on one sheet of ice. Tell us your group size and we’ll help you choose the right number of sheets, Dixie has up to six sheets available at any given time.
What does it cost, and what’s included?
Our standard rate is $400 per sheet for two hours. That includes professionally maintained ice, one instructor, all equipment (grippers, brooms, delivery sticks, step-on sliders), and use of our Curling Lounge before and after. Additional instructors are available and speed up the learn-to-curl portion so you get more game time. If you are looking for a team building experience combined with an off-site meeting, we can accommodate you.with wifi and media-equipped private meeting room. Catering can also be arranged.
How many instructors will we have?
Every playing surface rental includes 1 coach and has capacity for 8 participants. Additional coaches are available on request for an additional fee.
When can we book? (timing & availability)
Rentals run during available daytime windows through the season (roughly October to mid-April). Daytime rentals generally need to finish by 3:00 pm to all for ice maintenace to be performed. There are liminted evening and weekend times available. Submit a rental inquiry with your preferred rental time and we will do our best to accommodate.
What should we wear and bring?
• Clean, dry, closed-toe athletic shoes — mandatory to step on the ice.
• Warm, loose layers — you’ll warm up as you play (a base layer, a sweater, and gloves work well).
• Head protection (recommended) — a curling, hockey, bike, or ski helmet all work.
What paperwork and waivers are involved?
The person booking signs a short Rental Agreement covering your dates, times, fees, and a liability release. Separately, every participant completes our online SmartWaiver before curling — this includes the Rowan’s Law concussion acknowledgment for anyone under 26 years old. We send the waiver link once your booking is confirmed. All participants must sign waivers prior to going on the ice.
When do we pay?
A 50% deposit confirms your booking (you’re welcome to pay in full instead); the balance must be paid 14 days prior to your event. You can pay by secure card link, e-transfer, or cheque. A credit card fee may apply.
Can we have food and drinks?
Yes, bar service is available (some restrictions may apply). We have an in-house caterer with a wide assortment of menu options.
